I just wrote a really long post about everything that's been happening and of course somehow it got deleted and I really don't have time to write it again because I am sick and I have a big exam tomorrow in textile art and am also possibly going to Easter Island on Friday because we found really cheap flights but I just tried to buy them and it keeps saying I'm going to be charged 198,000 dollars instead of 198000 pesos so have a lot to figure out with that. So in super super brief: I went to Pichilemu on Friday a beach town 3 hours south with Jenna and her friend Fred from Colorado. the bus broke down 35 km away and we had to walk 15km and then hitchhike the rest of the way. Then we went to the house of someone Fred knows but we couldn't get in touch with the owner to see if we could stay there but when we looked around all of the windows were open so we just decided to break in and then it was fine and the guy called later that night and said it was fine for us to be there. So that was nice and the town was nice and it was especially great to be out of the city and hang out on the beach even though it was obviously too cold to go swimming. etc etc... pretty beaches and views, delicious empanadas with artichoke hearts and corn and cheese, really really good seafood (something called Machas which i've never seen before but which are my new favorite type of seafood). We also met some local surfers who were nice at first but then really aggressively tried to make moves on me and jenna even though we expressed disinterest a million times. but I think here girls just say no a lot but don't really mean it so guys don't listen to you when you say you're not feeling them. It's kind of frusterating and the girl-boy dynamics here are strange and confusing and I don't like how they work. But I bonded with lots of Swedish people over mutual love of The Knife and now we're friends and one of them makes me lots of cds of swedish music and a chilean girl in my class got really excited that I had seen all of her favorite bands in concert when i was in high school and she is going to take me out to shows here. and we found some uber hip bars that are kind of obnoxious but a welcome relief from reggeaton and Cristal and have art openings and free wine. . . In case you are also confused about what an exam in textile art looks like, I too am trying to figure it out. clearly not getting very far.
